Overview

Why Agency Workplaces

Inviting a Third Set of Eyes

Excite Media already had a culture of listening. The team runs weekly anonymous surveys that capture feedback on management, peers, culture, and role satisfaction. Feedback, as Nordqvist describes it, is really valuable: the best way to assess what is and is not working and figure out how to best support the team.

But even with a robust internal system in place, they knew there was value in a different kind of look. Partnering with Agency Workplaces gave them the opportunity to bring a third party in to collect data from a different angle, and with it, a deeper view into how the team was feeling, where the agency was excelling, and where there was room to refine their approach.

The goal was not to audit or benchmark. It was to learn something new and to give the team a channel to be heard by someone outside the building.

What We Learned

Strengths Confirmed, Growth Areas Clarified

The results affirmed what Excite Media had worked hard to build. There was a lot of positive feedback around the flexibility the agency provides, the supportiveness of both the team and management, and the caring environment they have cultivated over time.

But the most useful insights came from the gaps: the places where the agency could get sharper. Two areas stood out. The first was how the team communicates big-picture changes and growth plans during periods of transition. The second was how the agency supports career progression for team members who are ready for the next step.

Neither was a surprise, but having them named clearly gave leadership a direction. As Nordqvist noted, it was good to learn that they were already taking some really positive steps and to get further guidance on how to continue refining their approach.

3

Tips for Building Great Culture

What Excite Media Would Tell Other Agencies

  • Get regular feedback from team members across all levels and areas of the business. The needs that come with different levels of experience, workloads, and specialties are genuinely different, and a good culture accounts for that.

  • Encourage leaders to lead with care first. The attitude at the top flows all the way down. A flexible, understanding, and compassionate leadership style creates team members who treat each other with the same respect they receive, and that compounds over time.

  • Do not let culture events become a tickbox exercise. Any event that gets people communicating, problem solving, and socialising outside of actual work will build the kind of relationships that make them better teammates when it counts.
